I dream that children should be taught to love learning

By teachers who love teaching

I dream that one day

Teachers will rise up in great numbers

Against those in power who sit in splendid isolation

Legislating rules for the chalk face

Making changes to this and changes to that

And then ….. changes back again

I dream

That someone in power

Will write a policy on time

Which gives teachers time to prepare and plan

Time to consolidate and reflect

Time to enjoy teaching and inspiring their pupils

And even time for themselves

I dream of a time

When Ofsted inspectors will be redeployed

And schools will be centres of learning

Measured in decibels of a love of learning

Instead of test results and numeric data

But I am only a teacher

So I have little time to sleep

And no time at all to dream
